In the inaugural year of the EMERGE project, we came together to think about the scope of what infrastructure means to ethnography, the original title of the project. In this year, each lab/centre/studio situated their voices as teams, coalesced around new forms of collaboration, and build a community of practice between students and faculty. In this, they embraced the experimental idea of creating new methods. These new methods and protocols resulted in conference presentations, workshops, public talks, and five new methods prototyped between each member of the matrix. Coming out of our first year, we reimagined our collective effort around the new framework of EMERGE–a matrix for ethnographic collaboration + practice that allowed members of the matrix to dig deeper into foreground core methods of their labs/studios/centres to create a Cabinet of Curious Methods, a video archive/digital platform crafted for pedagogical uses both within the matrix and beyond. This year also included more public talks and conferences as well as publications. Click through to see all of these happenings and publications.
